Meet the faculty – Marianne Benedict

performers_faculty_marianne_benedictJob Title: SINGING TEACHER

What was your dream job when you were growing up?

I wanted to sing, dance and act on stage and screen.

What is the worst job you’ve done?

Telesales. I was always so scared to pick up the phone and found the work soul destroying!

What first got you interested in dance/singing/choreography?

Watching ballet and orchestras on TV with my sister. We used to sing and dance along in the living room, much to my brother’s annoyance.

What is the most memorable performance you have seen?

Probably when I watched my first West End show with my mum at the age of 13. It was Phantom Of The Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre. I literally couldn’t believe what I was seeing and hearing.

What is your favourite dance move/song lyrics?

I’m immersed in Sondheim at the moment as I’ve been performing in ‘Side By Side By Sondheim’ so I’m going to go with the lyrics to ‘Loosing My Mind’. They choke me up every night.

Who do you most admire, and why?

I admire anyone who takes the plunge into the world of show business, It’s all consuming and massively hard work, yet totally and utterly wonderful.

Who would you most like to dance with/sing for/perform with?

My great aunts were opera singers, one an alto and one a soprano, in a fantasy world I would sing with them.

What would your super power be?

To never get ill.

What do you wish you had more time to do?

I wish I had more time (and energy) to learn new skills. It’s so important to keep challenging the brain and body. I guess I’m too busy utilising the skills I already have!
