Performers College Graduates shine in The National Lottery’s Big Night of Musicals on BBC One

1 February, 2024

A host of familiar faces appeared on BBC last Sunday in the annual National Lottery’s Big Night of Musicals. Hosted by comedian and West End actor Jason Manford, the show was recorded at Manchester’s AO Arena to an audience of thousands on 22nd January.

The show was a compilation of numbers from some of the world’s leading musicals, including Guys and Dolls, Grease, Disney’s Aladdin, Phantom of the Opera and more. The show also featured guest appearances from West End royalty such as Michael Ball, Leyton Williams, and special guest Beverly Knight, whose performance of ‘Send in the Clowns’ was choreographed by graduates Mark Jennings and Billy Sawyer.

The night also featured graduates Kyle Seely, Harriett Millier performing in Disney’s Aladdin, Paulo Texeira in Mrs Doubtfire, and Mireia Mambo and Redmand Rance in A Chorus Line.

Performers College graduate Liam McHugh also performed in the cast of Grease The Musical:

“Getting to be part of the closing performance for Big Night Of Musicals with the cast of Grease was a core memory. Looking out to 12,000 people while flame cannons and fireworks are going off in front of you is an adrenaline rush like no other.

Meeting and watching so many talented performers in the space of two days was fulfilling and inspiring too, seeing old friends and making new ones. Theatre can change a person’s life and help teach them life skills, and social skills.

Huge respect to the National Lottery Good Causes for all that they’re doing – Theatre is for everyone.”

Essex Principal Lecturer of Musical Theatre Kieran Jae said this about the performances:

“The Big Night at the Musicals event makes theatre accessible to all, showcasing some of the best shows from the West End and regional theatre and it is always thrilling to see our alumni performing across such a diverse collection of shows and as part of creative teams for this spectacular production. Congratulations to all involved and here at Performers College we couldn’t be more proud of the continued success of our graduates. “

The show can be watched now on BBC iPlayer
