Performers College Graduates reflect on their roles in Barbie movie
Now officially the biggest movie of 2023, we can’t wait to see more of our graduates in Barbie when it comes to streaming this week.
We caught up with graduates Redmand Rance and Michael French about their roles in the film.
Redmand played a Ken in the Barbieland scenes.
“I had the best time working on this Movie. Being surrounded by such an amazing cast was an honour. I feel as though Barbie has an important message that will speak to many, and I’m very proud to be a part of it.”
Michael French graduated Performers College back in 2000 and is still active in the industry having had a successful career in the West End, TV shows like Ted Lasso and running the Barnet branch of Razzmatazz. After initially deciding against a Ken role, Michael auditioned for a role as a Mattel Executive, one of eight seen flanking Will Ferrel’s zany CEO throughout the film and also escorting Barbie (Margot Robbie) into the boardroom on her arrival at Mattel.
“I’ve been on many film sets and the environment Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie, and the rest of the cast and crew created was hugely enjoyable and a creatively funny atmosphere. In fact, I’ve never been on a set like it, it was a joy from beginning to end. The first day I was on the Barbieland set with Margot Robbie, she came over, shook my hand and had a chat which was Incredibly nice of her and a testament to how kind and genuine she is as a person and an actor.
Seeing the finished film was amazing and it far surpassed any expectation I had. It’s a huge budget film with some really valuable messages and one with very adult themes. I want to thank Jennifer White (choreographer) for believing and trusting in me to be a part of this project.”
The film also featured graduates Caroline Wilde, Luke Field-Wright, Beccy Jones, Grant Thresh, Lewis Calcutt, Richard Womersley, Ellis Harman, and Mason Boyce.
We’re so proud of everyone who featured and can’t wait to see what they do next.
