Performers College brings the heat to Move It 2025

10 March, 2025

Performers College students and staff from all four campuses, including Northern Ballet School, represented the university at the annual Move It show this weekend. Held at Excel London, the show is the UK’s biggest dance show and is celebrating its 20th year.

Guided by our Production team, our students worked with an exceptional creative team of industry professionals including choreographers, musical directors and directors to deliver an outstanding variety of musical theatre and dance pieces on both the main stage, and showcase stage.

We also met thousands of talented future training professionals at our exhibitor booths, where ambassadors and staff were on hand to talk about all things Performers College.

On Friday 7th, audiences were treated to three performances, with Miss Defoe (choreographed by Billy Roy Sawyer and featuring Essex and Birmingham students) on the main stage. Birmingham students also graced the showcase stage with a contemporary piece by Max Jarish, and another piece styled on The Great Gatsby.

BA (Hons) Musical Theatre and Dance student Georgia Mall performed in Miss Defoe, and City Rhythm, reflected on the experience:

“Performing at Move It this year filled me with so much pride for my college. We got to showcase so much versatility throughout our pieces and that challenged me so much as a performer. Having the opportunity to work with outstanding creatives that are so recognised and respected in the current industry gave me knowledge that I can carry with me throughout the rest of my training and into graduation. and I got to share the experience alongside my Performers College family, making memories that will last a lifetime!”

Dan Oyebanjo also performed in Miss Defoe, and The Door:

“Performing on that stage felt like I was making so many people proud, it’s such an honour to represent the college in away that celebrates so many talented people and showcases our art.”

Saturday 8th brought two main stage performances, City Rhythm choreographed by Emma Rogers, and Northern Ballet School Classical Focus students in Shattered Calm by Ryan Upton. The showcase stage featured our Manchester students in a piece called Once Upon a One More Time.

The main stage offerings were Northern Ballet School’s Jazz Focus students in That Kind of Guy by Andrew Margerison, and our Essex students in The Door, choreographed by Keeley East.

Dean of Performing Arts Adam Davenport reflected on the weekend:

“The range of material, genre and performance styles executed by our students to such a high level, both technically and artistically, was inspirational to see. It was thrilling to see students from all campuses collaborating to represent Performers College so professionally, and with such passion for storytelling and performance. Congratulations all!”
