First Level 6 Acting Graduates Showcase Short Films at Everyman Cinema Screening
Our first ever Level 6 Acting for Stage, Screen and Digital Media cohort gathered at the Everyman Cinema in Birmingham for an exclusive screening of short films produced for the Advanced Acting for Stage & Screen module, and to celebrate the end of their time at Performers College.
Filmed in November 2024, each of the nine short films was meticulously crafted over two days of shooting, with 36 students taking on individual character roles across the productions.
The filming took our students beyond the classroom and into the vibrant streets of Digbeth and other locations around Birmingham, providing authentic backdrops for their storytelling. Most films featured four or five characters, while one ambitious production, Wish – an urban fantasy exploring the dangerous consequences of getting what you desire – included six characters. The event was attended by guest speaker and Performers College Patron Omari Douglas (It’s a Sin, Constellations), Dean of Performing Arts Adam Davenport, and the course leadership team from the Birmingham campus.
The films shown were:
Operation Face Hugger, a shopping tv comedy about two rival presenters.
Fleeting Connections, a drama about several characters that frequent a coffee shop, who are all affected by a major tragedy
Wish, a male character makes three wishes, and his life is slowly destroyed.
House Divided, several ex uni-friends meet for dinner and it becomes clear there are underlying tensions all around.
Parallel Echoes, AI girlfriend is purchased as a replacement by a jilted boyfriend.
Hidden Room, a couple staying at an Airbnb are unaware they are being used for a psychology experiment.
Redemption Road an ex girlfriend just released from prison causes major tension between a couple.
Unmasked Deception, a data company covers up access to public medical records.
Spotlight’s Shadow, a comedy about a paranoid spoilt film star who gets cancelled.
This represented the most complex screen acting module our students have undertaken to date, pushing their skills and collaborative abilities to new heights.
Hannah Simpson, who featured in Wish commented on the event:
It was such a lovely day, to have everyone together for one last time as a year group, and to have Omari there to watch all of our films. It’s sad that it’s over, but I’m excited to see what we all do in the future!
Jennifer Mitchell, Head of School for Performers College Birmingham added:
We couldn’t be prouder of our inaugural Acting cohort. These amazing students have not only met the challenges of being the first group through this programme but have exceeded all expectations with their professionalism, creativity, and dedication.
As they continue their journey in the performing arts, we wish them every success and look forward to seeing where their talents take them next. They have truly set the standard for future Level 6 cohorts to follow, and we’ll miss them all.
