Screen acting techniques for TV and Film
These sessions start your journey in developing the key skills required for performing for screen. You will discover and develop the core screen actor’s artistic tools: voice, body, imagination and creative interpretation. Throughout these classes, you will be taken through a process of creating, developing and delivering assured performances for camera and will build an understanding of technical language that may be used on set whilst filming. During the course, you will participate in industry mirroring scenarios including screen tests and shooting scenes from television and film scripts for both single and multi-camera.
Text – From Page to Stage
Text classes will focus on how an actor brings a writer’s work to life to tell an engaging story for an audience. A range of text will be explored including poetry, classical and contemporary duologues, and play extracts.
Radio Acting & Voiceover
The ever-evolving voice-over industry has a variety of disciplines, so you will begin to explore concepts such as radio play & audio drama, audiobook narration and commercial voice-overs. You will explore how a story can be told without the use of a visual stimulus and how both your voice and body are essential in conveying meaning within an audio setting.
Voice and Accent Work
You will be introduced to voice work and will cover both practical and theoretical components. You will discover how embodied voice work is integrated into spoken text. Core elements of spoken voice technique will be introduced and developed, and approaches to accent work will be studied.
Improvisation
Improvisation classes will be explorational, varied, and will incorporate elements from different acting practitioners. The essential building blocks of improvisation will be introduced and developed during the course, encouraging you to work flexibly, spontaneously and with a range of stimuli.
Movement for Actors
The movement element of this course begins with a focus on physical release techniques such as Limon, Arnold or Olsen alongside body-based improvisations. These practical workshops will intensively focus you on your understanding of your body as a tool for expression and offer techniques that allow you to release physical tension, and experience being open to your own impulses within improvisatory work. Laban’s efforts will also be explored, and the focus will be on developing flexibility within your physicality to help you with playing a range of characters.
Singing for Actors
Actors are often asked to sing within a play or on screen. In our singing for actors sessions, you will work with one of our Musical Directors and vocal coaches to develop your singing technique. You will sing in harmony during ensemble classes, and there will be the opportunity to sing solo during the course for those who would like to work on their individual performance skills.
Acting for Video Games using Motion Capture
This area of the course focuses on equipping you with experience of digital and virtual performance, developing skills learnt within the screen acting sessions by introducing Motion Capture. You will experience creating professional digital media content through our high-spec green screen facilities and motion capture equipment, learning performance techniques that are used in feature films and video games.
Audition Technique and Careers Guidance
Towards the end of the course, a mock audition scenario will be created where you can practice your audition technique in front of a panel, and receive feedback. There will also be the opportunity for a Q&A with an industry professional, where you can gather tips and advice to help you develop your career within the industry.
