Birmingham campus completes first ever run of graduate-year Musicals

16 May, 2024

Performers College Birmingham recently celebrated a big milestone by staging their first ever Level 6 productions. The college’s third-year students brought three shows to the stage – Legally Blonde, the musical based on the iconic Reese Witherspoon film, and two original revues titled Magic and Sweet Temptation, centred around songs with magical and candy themes.

The productions allowed the Level 6 Musical Theatre and Dance students to demonstrate the high-level training they’ve received over the past three years on a professional stage, with Legally Blonde showing at The Crescent Theatre, while Magic and Sweet Temptation were performed at the Birmingham Rep Studio Theatre. The shows ran from 18 April – 12 May, with three performances per show, facilitated by our in-house Productions team.

Lydia Wilding, who played Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, reflected on the experience:

“Having the opportunity to perform in Legally Blonde was the perfect way to end my degree at Performers College. The whole cast is so talented, and we were so lucky to work with industry professionals such as Katharine Wooley, who was MD for Legally Blondeat Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2022, as well as James Harris and James Rosental, who created the most professional, caring and supportive rehearsal process.  The whole experience was so special, especially with the support of all the staff and students at Performers, and I am so grateful for it!”

Ellie Stainsby performed in Magic:

“Being part of the Magic cast has felt like a very special last few months at Performers College Birmingham and has just been the best time. I feel so grateful to have been given the opportunity to work alongside some great creatives, including our Director Richard Peakman himself.  The hard work and commitment that went into the show, alongside the nurturing and creative environment, has been unmatched. I honestly wish I could go back and do it all over again!”

Blair Anderson, Creative Director of Sweet Temptation said:

“Creating this production has been an absolute joy from start to finish. The commitment, dedication, and professionalism displayed from this cast has made my job as Creative Director incredibly easy and fulfilling. It is incredibly rare to come across a graduating year as multi-talented as the Performers College students, who no doubt have huge futures in the performing arts industry ahead of them, and it has been a privilege to create a show that highlights as many of these skills as possible.

Thank you to the team at Performers College for trusting me to build a revue production for their first graduating year of Performers College Birmingham.”

Congratulations to all our Level 6 BA (Hons) Musical Theatre and Dance students for their amazing performances.
