Lauren Williams

Principal Lecturer in Creative Industries

Lauren Williams trained as a performer at The University of Winchester and at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, gaining a distinction in her Master of Arts degree for Actor Training and Coaching. Lauren has been an educator for 10 years and is an experienced teacher and Acting Coach.

Lauren’s research and practice is from a feminist position and is centred on challenging power dynamics within education and advocating for consent in actor training. Throughout her career, pedagogically, Lauren has maintained an individualistic approach whilst in the role as facilitator to support and cultivate agency in students.

Lauren's approach is student-centred and dialogical, with her research focussed upon new pedagogical methods that cultivates agency.

As an academic, Lauren has presented at several conferences in her area of research, including:

  • The Makings of the Actor – Acting Methods Reconsidered – New Perspective in Acting practice in a Meta-Covid World titled ‘Power Dynamics, Consent and Touch withing the rehearsal room in a post-pandemic world’ in July 2022.
  • The S Word – Stanislavski: Director, Trainer, Pedagogue at the University of Athens titled ‘Can you feel it? Re-defining Affective Memory' in November 2023.
  • Igniting Creativity: Art, Education, Transformation and Change at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance titled 'Power-Dynamic-Aware-Consent-Based Pedagogy' in January 2025.
