Callum Thompson

Associate Lecturer in Singing & Musical Director

Callum is a Musical Director, Pianist and Vocal Coach based in the West Midlands.

Callum studied at the University of Birmingham, earning a BMus(Hons) in Music and an MA in Global Popular Musics. Whilst there, he accompanied a wide range of choirs, from student-led chamber groups to the prestigious Birmingham University Singers and the University Chorus, led by Simon Carrington and Julian Wilkins respectively. He also trained in jazz and classical piano, as well as choral conducting and sound recording.

Since graduating, he has worked with leading amateur groups in and around Birmingham on shows including Guys & Dolls, Spring Awakening, American Idiot, Little Shop of Horrors, and most recently Charlie & The Chocolate Factory.

He is resident Musical Director of the Old Joint Stock, a fringe theatre in the heart of Birmingham, working on in-house productions and external tours. He is constantly expanding his skillset as a keyboardist and conductor, utilising electronic equipment and software to augment his playing. He loves educating actors and singers in how these technologies work, enabling them to be give confident and collaborative performances, regardless of the technical setup.
