Leading Theatre Industry Partners Join Forces to Inspire Next Generation of Backstage Talent

21 February, 2025

Performers College Manchester is set to host TheatreWorks, a groundbreaking new careers event aimed at addressing the growing skills gap in technical theatre and production roles across the industry. The free one-day event, taking place at the Dancehouse on Oxford Road, will bring together major players in British theatre to showcase the diverse career opportunities available behind the curtain.

The event, scheduled for Friday 11th April 2025, will feature keynote speeches from industry leaders including Mark Dakin, TAIT UK Principal, and Mark Cartwright, Managing Director of Runaway Entertainment. Cartwright, whose company is bringing the world premiere of A Knight’s Tale to Manchester Opera House ahead of its West End transfer, will share insights into technical production and the vital role backstage teams play in bringing spectacular new musicals to life. Attendees will have access to interactive workshops, one-to-one career guidance sessions, and networking opportunities with professionals from organisations such as ATG Entertainment, UK Theatre/SOLT, and Cameron Mackintosh.

“We’re very excited to throw open the doors to the Dancehouse to welcome young people and industry leaders from across the northwest to this new event, packed with talks, careers advice and hands-on workshops. We look forward to bringing the creative community together to encourage and inspire the next generation of backstage technicians and producers.”

– Tony Followell, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Performing Arts
