Essex students perform at St. Lukes Hospice for International Women’s Day

24 March, 2025

Essex students performed at an International Women’s Day Afternoon Tea on Friday 8 March at Stock Brook Manor Country Club in aid of St Luke’s Hospice. The event brought together local entrepreneurs and business leaders to honour and empower women while supporting a meaningful cause.

A central highlight of the event was the involvement of singers from Performers College, who added a dynamic touch with live musical theatre performances. The students performed four songs, showcasing their impressive skills and adding atmosphere while raising funds for the hospice.

In addition to the performances, the event provided a platform for inspiring women to share their stories, celebrate their achievements, and connect with others who are making a positive impact. Featured speakers included Wendy French, whose husband received care at St. Luke’s Hospice, as well as Trustee Geraldine Rodgers, Chief Executive Eileen Marshall, and Lavena Babbs from Pineapple Care.

Ellie Cram, a third-year BA (Hons) Musical Theatre and Dance student, performed at the event:

“It was an incredible experience, getting to sing for such a wonderful cause and meeting such inspiring women! I feel so grateful to have been a part of the day raising money for an amazing charity and being able to dedicate our song Dancing Queen to Pineapple Care Group. It made singing it so much more special, seeing all of them up on their feet dancing. The whole day was so special and I’m extremely grateful to have been a part of it!”

Thanks to the support of all involved, the event raised over £10,000 for St. Luke’s Hospice, helping them continue their important work in the community.
