Claire Lambert
Associate Lecturer Contemporary Dance
Supported by Birmingham’s strong network of youth dance training, Claire was introduced to movement at the age of fifteen, later graduating from London Contemporary Dance School with Postgraduate Diploma in Performance & with BA (Hons) in Dance Theatre from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
Claire performed in the Opening Ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games & premiered new work My Bit with Lîla Dance in 2023. Ongoing projects include Grief is the Thing with Feathers with Beyond Words, It's OK with Four Hands Company for South East Dance's Little Big Dance project & As The Floor Shifted with CoDa Dance.
Claire performed in the Olivier award-winning Angels in America at the National Theatre working with Steven Hoggett, Finn Caldwell and Marianne Elliott before continuing on to R&D for National Theatre Studio's New Work Department.
Aerial work includes performing CastAway on gyroscopic flying rig, performing as aerial rugby player for Rugby League World Cup, R&D for concept film vertical dancing on cliffs with Kate Lawrence and vertical dance piece Home with Upswing Aerial for Coventry City of Culture 2021.
Previous projects include touring Breaking The Ice to Shanghai with Filskit Theatre, playing Sandra in Beautiful Thing for GDIF18, touring Night at the Theatre with Casson & Friends, singing internationally with Town Hall Gospel Choir, singing with Birmingham Opera Company, touring Urban Astronaut (Highly Sprung), discovering aerial techniques with Rogue Play and Wired Aerial and performing in the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony.
Claire is currently funded by ACE for a Developing Your Creative Practice grant and teaches regularly for Brum Pro Class, Performer’s College, Coventry Pro Initiative, Birmingham CAT Scheme and company class for ACE Dance and Music.
Claire is passionate about freelance dance and the local dance ecology in Birmingham, playing a key role in founding two pioneering initiatives; Freelance Dance - The Movement for Dance Workers and Dance Co-operative Birmingham.
